With the community spending more time in the home and utilizing water, residents may be curious about the Groundwater Reduction Plan (GRP) and the related fees on residential water bills. It is the goal of the Board of Directors for Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 24 (FBCMUD 24) to inform residents in the District of these fees and how they relate to the community.
The GRP is mandated by the Fort Bend Subsidence District (FBSD), a governmental entity created in 1989 by the Texas Legislature to regulate the withdrawal of groundwater as a means to minimize subsidence. Per the FBSD, all cities within specified boundaries are required to develop and implement a GRP to reduce the pumpage of groundwater.
As FBCMUD 24 lies within these boundaries, and per the GRP managed by Missouri City, residents of this District are subject to GRP fees based on actual metered water usage. Consequently, the District is charged a fee (GRP Fee) for every 1,000 gallons of water withdrawn by the District, which includes occasional fee increases.
Effective January 1, 2021, the groundwater user’s fee has increased from $0.47 to $0.59 per 1,000 gallons, and the surface water pumpage fee has increased from $2.19 to $2.38 per 1,000 gallons of water pumped.
Please note: This is a fee that is levied by the GRP and not by the FBCMUD 24 Board.
It is the goal of the Board of Directors to comply with these mandates, as well as minimize the impact to District residents. Although these fee increases are not generated by FBCMUD 24, they are passed through to everyone residing within the District.
