Frequently Asked Questions

What is a smart meter?

A smart meter is an electronic water meter, connected to an endpoint, allowing for the continuous monitoring of water consumption.

How frequently is usage updated?

Usage is updated every 15 minutes.

What are the benefits of participating in the smart meter and EyeOnWater programs?

  • Residents can monitor their water usage.
  • Residents can be alerted to leaks early.
  • Residents can conserve more water, and thereby save money.

What do I need to do to get the most out of my smart meter?

When will these smart meters be installed?

The Board of Directors for FBCMUD 24 have already taken the steps to have smart meters installed for existing residents. If you are a current resident, you already have a smart meter. For homes yet to be built, the developer will install smart meters for each new home.

What effect does my smart meter have on sewage fees, if any?

Sewage fees are calculated in accordance with the amount of water that goes through the meter. The amount of water that is used will be measured by your smart meter. No additional fees will be applied.

What is the service fee for a technician to come out and check the valves in my home for leaks?

There is no service fee to have an MDS technician come and check for leaks in your home.

Can smart meters detect leaks in an irrigation system?

Yes. Smart meters monitor all water usage as it relates to your home, including interior and exterior pipes.

How accurate are the usage updates?

Each smart meter is assigned to a single residence; therefore, it only tracks usage coming from that home and is incredibly accurate.

My bill this year over all is higher. Is the smart meter the reason?

Is there any chance that my meter data can be mixed up with a neighbor’s meter data? How is the data reconciled and verified to my address?

Using residence-specific endpoint technology, each meter is assigned to individual residences, therefore, there are no possibilities for the wrong data to be billed.

Does the operator, Municipal District Services (MDS), also monitor usage for potential leaks and/or high usage?

Yes, MDS keeps track of high usage. However, residents may not be notified until they receive their bill.

I have more questions, who can I talk to?

MDS customer service representatives are available to assist residents in setting up their accounts and to answer any other questions they may have.
